Build

The Rear Mudguards

Step 1

Fit the Wing Reinforcements to the Wing Frames with the Wing Shells in between, then secure these together using two (2) Type K screws.

IMPORTANT: Many of the parts in this stage may look similar, but they are not identical (even if they have the same part numbers). To make things more difficult, they are not marked ‘left’ or ‘right’ either. To help identify the parts we need to use in these steps, I have grouped them by the left and right sides:

Begin by fitting the two tabs of the left Wing Reinforcement into these matching slots of the left Wing Frame, as shown:

Secure the upper connection with one (1) of the Type K screws:

Next, fit the left Wing Shell between these parts, orienting the rounded ‘tabs’ of the Shell on the bars of the Wing Frame as shown. This is why we did not add the lower screw yet – we need to flex the parts a bit to install this Shell:

Finish securing the Reinforcement to the Frame with one (1) more Type K screw, capturing the Shell in between as shown:

In the same way, assemble the right Wing Frame assembly:

  • Slide the tabs of the right Wing Reinforcement into the matching slots of the right Wing Frame
  • Fit the right Wing Shell between these parts, orienting the rounded ‘tabs’ around the edges as shown

Secure the Reinforcement to the Frame with two (2) Type K screws, capturing the Shell in between as shown:

Here are our completed Rear Mudguard assemblies:

Step 2

Retrieve your Rear Frame assembly from the previous stage. On the left side of the Frame, press fit the Inner Side Panel to matching posts.

These Inner Side Panels are not marked ‘left’ or ‘right’. Check the picture below to choose the correct one:

Once installed, this Side Panel should sit flush inside the recess of the Rear Frame:

Using the same process, we can fit the posts of the right Inner Side Panel to the opposite side of the Rear Frame, as shown:

Returning to the left side of the Rear Frame, fit the left Rear Mudguard assembly to the Inner Side Panel.

First, seat the two pins of the Wing Shell into the matching holes at this location of the Rear Frame:

Then, make sure these pins are fully seated. On my model, I lightly tapped them in with my craft hammer:

Align the legs of the Wing Reinforcement to these matching mounting points of the Rear Frame as shown, and secure them both into place with two (2) Type H screws – one for each leg.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on the threads of all screws going into metal parts:

Finish securing this Mudguard into place with one (1) Type D screw at the rear, as shown:

Step 3

Moving over to the right side of the Rear Frame, fit the right Rear Mudguard assembly to the Inner Side Panel.

As before, fully seat the two pins of the Wing Shell into the matching holes at this location of the Rear Frame, as shown:

Begin securing the legs of this Mudguard assembly to the Rear Frame with two (2) Type H screws:

Finish securing this Mudguard into place with one (1) Type D screw at the rear, as shown:

Thoughts

I wish the Mudguard parts would have been better marked, but we still managed to get through it all and everything looks good! Keep the unused Side Reinforcements, Couplings and Squared Container nearby for use in Stage 45.
