STAGE 66

 Return to the BUILD

“The door opening system of LaFerrari is quite unique, with the doors opening upwards, as is the latest trend in the super sports car sector.”

The Left Door (4)

NOTE: I slightly changed the order of these steps from the instructions to make the process easier to follow.

Step 1

Firmly press the two pins of the L-Shaped Panel into the matching holes at this location of the Left Door Interior Panel, as shown:

Step 2

Retrieve your Left Door assembly from the previous stage. Then, firmly press the pins of the Left Door Interior Panel into the matching holes of the Left Door Interior, as shown:

At the rear edge, there is a small pin that seats into a hole of the Interior (red arrow below) and the long narrow end of the Panel should be fitted flush with the Upper Interior Lining (yellow arrow):

Step 3

Press the two pins of the Armrest into the matching holes at this location of the Left Door Interior Panel.

Fit the lower pin first, then the upper pin, and firmly press both pins into place:

That step completes the assembly of our Left Door. Here is what it looks like finished:

Installing the Right Door
Step 4

Retrieve your Main Chassis assembly from Stage 58 and your Right Door assembly from Stage 62. Gently fit the Right Door into the matching opening on the right side of the car:

At the front end of the Door, slide the eyelet of the chrome hinge up onto this post on the Chassis as shown:

On the roof of the Chassis, make sure this small screw is seated in the matching recess as shown.

These tiny fixtures will act as the upper pivot point of the Doors. They are very delicate, so take care while handling them:

Secure this Right Door to the Chassis with one (1) Type N screw into the forward post, as shown.

Tighten this screw enough that the door does not slide forward/backwards on the post, but not so tight that the hinge can not rotate easily. This is also your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on the threads of all screws going into metal parts:

Installing the Left Door
Step 5

In the same way as before, gently fit the Left Door into the matching opening on the left side of the car:

At the front end of the Door, slide the eyelet of the chrome hinge up onto this post on the Chassis as shown:

On the roof of the Chassis, again make sure the small upper screw is seated in the matching recess as shown:

Finally, secure this Left Door to the Chassis with one (1) Type N screw into the forward post, as shown.

As before, tighten this screw enough that the door does not slide forward/backwards on the post but not so tight that the hinge can not rotate easily:

Thoughts

I am confused about the design choice to use a small screw as the upper Door pivot point. I feel a solid bar (integrated with the piece attached to the Door roof) would have been more sturdy and durable. These screws are loose right now, but will be held down by the Roof (Top Part) section that we will be installing in the next stage. As we will frequently be turning the Chassis upside down as the build progresses, you may want to temporarily tape these Doors in the closed position to keep them from unexpectedly opening and possibly causing damage.
